Nourish Your Skin from the Inside Out

Your skin, like everything else about you, is the product of the marriage between your genes and your environment. You don’t have any control over your genes, so no amount of skin care can guarantee you perfect skin. But you do have a lot of control over your environment, and here is where you can really make the most of what Mother Nature gave you.

Two vastly important things to remember about nourishing your skin from the inside out is to exercise and drink plenty of water, at least 64 ounce(8 cups) of water per day. Exercise stimulates the whole body, getting your blood flowing and making you glow. Drinking water hydrates your skin from the inside, keeping it soft and moist and minimizing under-eye circles. The best foods to eat are fruits and vegetables high in water content, lean proteins, and healthy fats, which are anti-inflammatory and therefore help protect of the inside tissue (the blood vessels) as well as the outside tissue (the skin).

Your best bet for fresh, smooth, and radiant skin is that bowl of berries. Your skin-healthy diet starts with what you eat, and antioxidants play a vital role in capturing the free radicals that could potentially damage your skin.

Mix the following ingredients together for a quick exfoliating facial:

¼ cup plain yogurt

1 tbs. crushed oats (I put some in the blender for a course flour)

1 tsp. crushed berries

Apply to your face and leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Eye Soother

-Sit on a comfortable, straight-back couch or chair. Close your eyes and focus your energy in, listening to the sound of your breath–inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth.

-Create warmth in your palms by quickly rubbing them together. Once they are warm, place your hot palms over your eyes. Hold them there for several seconds or until the heat cools.
